THE RETREAT

The Concept

Sea and Soil is for anyone craving a different pace—one that’s more connected, more grounded, and more alive.

Over two weeks, we’ll live, cowork and learn together on an agro-ecological farm and eco-conscious living space in the Costa Rican jungle. You’ll get your hands in the soil, learn how to grow food, make natural soap, support conservation efforts, and experience what it truly means to live regeneratively.

This experience is tailored for remote workers—with time and space to do your job, reliable Wi-Fi, and a rhythm that balances work and life. When the day winds down, the sea is just a short walk away—for sunset swims, barefoot beach walks, or quiet moments to yourself. You won’t have to think about meals—Rebe, the local owner and vegan chef, has you covered with nourishing dishes every day. Yoga sessions, shared meals, and meaningful connection round out the experience.

It’s not a retreat from real life—it’s a glimpse into what a more intentional one can feel like.

THE LOCATION

About Finca Ganadito

  • Instagram

Finca Ganadito is a social enterprise committed to sustainability, providing an eco-conscious living space and a versatile venue for immersive experiences and service-based learning. At its core lies an agro-ecological farm dedicated to regenerative agriculture, producing fresh food, improving soil quality, and increasing biodiversity.

👩🏽‍🌾 They grow from the ground up. Using regenerative farming techniques, they create their own soil, fertilizer, and microorganisms to grow an abundance of nourishing plants: yucca, taro, sweet potatoes, kale, cucumbers, peppers, scallions, spinach, fruits, herbs, and more.

🥒 They serve fresh, farm-to-table, plant-based organic meals—straight from their land to your plate.

🧼 They walk the talk of self-sufficiency, reducing reliance on unsustainable industries by producing their own organic food and even natural cosmetics.

♻️ They live regeneratively. That means natural building, recycling and upcycling, reforestation and rewilding, purifying greywater, and using only renewable energy sources.

👨‍🏫 They’re educators at heart. They teach regenerative farming, forest preservation, sea turtle conservation, sustainable tourism, food security, and resource stewardship—to visitors, volunteers, and the local community.

🐢 They’re deeply committed to sea turtle conservation. Rob, one of the founders, is a leader in the field with over 15 years of experience.

🔥 They honor local culture. Through cooking classes, Spanish lessons, and traditional knowledge-sharing, they help people connect with Costa Rica’s roots in a real, respectful way.

ABOUT DRAKE BAY

Drake Bay is located on the stunning Osa Peninsula and is the gateway to the Corcovado National Park. Famously referred to by National Geographic as "the most biologically intense place on Earth", the park is home to 2.5% of the world’s species.

The Drake Bay area consists of the main tourist town, known as Agujitas (where the boat taxi from Sierpe lands and from where the main tours depart), plus several smaller villages, such as Los Planes and El Progreso, and beach destinations, such as Ganadito, Caletas, Río Claro and San Josecito.

Agujitas has a relaxed backpacker vibe and several restaurants, cafes and bars, plus a fantastic coastal trail that extends all the way to the National Park, stopping at many picturesque beaches along the way.

Hola, we're Rob and Rebe!

Rob's connection with Drake Bay's community began in 2009 during his Central America backpacking trip. Originally a volunteer and research assistant on a sea turtle conservation project, his background as a biologist led him to manage the project for six years.

Patrolling nightly for nesting sea turtles, the locals taught him Spanish and sustainable living, earning him the nickname "Rob Tortugo" or the turtle man. After living on the Osa Peninsula, Rob returned to Drake Bay with his wife, Rebe, a Costa Rican psychologist, chef, and yoga instructor. Together, they created a social enterprise in Ganadito, near the turtle nesting beach, combining international volunteerism with eco-friendly practices. As naturalized Costa Rican citizens, they manage the sea turtle project, forest reserve, support the local school, and promote responsible eco-tourism.

During all these years over 213 international volunteers have been trained in regenerative farming and sea turtle conservation, while enjoying over 200 yoga and Spanish classes amidst the breathtaking backdrop of Costa Rica's stunning beaches. Together, they've planted over 300 native forest trees, completed over 30 biodiversity surveys, and produced over 20 tons of soil along with multiple organic bio-inputs. Through intensive efforts, 19 local turtle patrol leaders have been trained in conservation management, resulting in the protection of 270 sea turtle nests and the release of over 20,000 baby sea turtles into the Pacific Ocean. This collective endeavor has also raised over USD $30,000 in income for the sea turtle project, empowering sustainable conservation efforts in this tropical sanctuary.

Mae what can I say, it was an incredible experience and an inspirational education in sustainable and regenerative farming and living. Very knowledgeable and kind the hosts Rob and Rebe— magnificent vegan chef! I learned so much, am truly inspired to do better for the environment and in my community at home. I miss my dog Boom Boom, who was everyone's best friend and walked with us to the beach and lovely adventures around the farm. And all of this is located in a beautiful magical country with rich biodiversity and lush rainforests. Ya se echo de menos Costa Rica, pura vida!!

The hospitality, facilities, and overall program were perfectly planned out making the stay extremely comfortable and fun! Rebe has a true passion for cooking, using fresh ingredients from the farm to make delicious vegetarian meals every day. We were always looking forward to the next meal. Rob provided the knowledge about what, why, and how they are protecting the turtles and other life within Drake Bay. Showing us how to live sustainably yet comfortably. Alongside making us laugh every day Highly recommend!

My experience with the eco village was incredibly valuable and rewarding. Rob and Rebe were professional, engaging & consistent hosts. There was a ton of variety & balance throughout our tasks & everything was extremely organized. The location was breathtaking. Waking up to the sounds of monkeys & greetings by colorful macaws made each day made each day feel like a dream. Rebe prepared each farm to table meal with her soul. Her yoga classes truly resonated with me as well. Rob is kind & genuinely cares about his work. His Spanish classes were also super fun and helpful. I would 100% return.

From the serene location on the coast of the Osa Peninsula, to the incredible founders of this little slice of heaven, we truly could not have asked for more. Rob and Rebe are truly incredible and inspiring human beings, that empower others to make impactful changes to both their health and the environment. GETTING THERE

✈️ By Air (Quick & Easy)

The fastest way is to fly into San José International Airport (SJO), then take a short domestic flight to Drake Bay (DRK) with airlines like Sansa or Aerobell.
Flights take about 50 minutes and offer stunning views over the jungle and coastline.

Once you land in Drake Bay, we pick you pickup and get you to the finca — just a short ride away.

🚐 + 🚤 By Land & Boat (Scenic Route)

If you’re up for a little more adventure:

  1. Take a bus or shuttle from San José to Sierpe (approx. 6–7 hours).

  2. From Sierpe, hop on a boat taxi down the river and out to Drake Bay (approx. 1 hour).

The boat ride is beautiful — winding through mangroves and arriving right on the beach.
We’ll help you coordinate timing and connections if you choose this route.

🚐 By 4x4 Vehicle (Dry Season Only)

You can also drive in with a 4x4 vehicle during the dry season (Dec–April).
The road is rough and includes river crossings, but it's totally doable for the adventurous. We recommend leaving early and arriving before dark.
