The Concept
The Soilmates Journey by Nomad Farm x Protopia is a month-long exploration of regenerative living — not escaping our lives, but by living it differently.
In a world where many feel a quiet disconnection from nature, from one another, and even from themselves, this journey offers a path toward reconnection — guided, grounded, and open to experimentation.
Over four weeks, participants enter a shared environment designed to nurture a more integrated way of being: connecting with the land through hands-on practice, with others through community living, and with the self through reflection, playfulness, and creativity.
Adapted for remote workers and modern rhythms, the experience invites a balance between purpose and presence — a chance to continue one’s work while immersing in a more intentional, life-giving flow.

About Lake Arenal
Protopia is located in northern Costa Rica, near the small rural village of La Cabanga, just three kilometers away. Though immersed in nature, the area remains connected to nearby towns. San Rafael de Guatuso, about eleven kilometers away, is a small agricultural hub where you’ll find banks, pharmacies, and local eateries. Nuevo Arenal, fifteen kilometers from Protopia, is right beside the large Lake Arenal and has restaurants, cafés, and shops.
The landscape here is defined by its connection to the Arenal Volcano and the surrounding highlands. Rolling farmland, forest corridors, and freshwater springs shape the region, creating a place where cultivation and wilderness meet. The nearby Arenal Volcano National Park and lake region are known for their trails, hot springs, and vibrant biodiversity, offering moments of exploration and quiet reflection within reach of daily life.
If you’re already in Costa Rica, you might come from the beaches of Guanacaste before making your way to the immersion.

NOMAD FARM
Hola, I'm Didi!
I’m a Serbian girly and a nomadic remote worker, slow traveling through LatAm since December 2024. My journey is inspired by mindfulness, connection, and curiosity - I move between pet sitting, backpacking, and volunteering with (digital nomad) communities and farms.
Passionate about sports and all things water-related, I find joy and balance in movement and nature. My academic background in Hispanic Cultures and Literatures deepened my love for the region, its language, and its people, and continues to inspire my travels and collaborations.
Before embracing this nomadic lifestyle, I worked with international groups and organizations where I helped create intercultural learning experiences and safe, creative spaces for young people from around the world. Those experiences taught me the power of community, empathy, and small, everyday actions that spark outward to create meaningful change.
Finding NomadFarm, a community that is a true hug for the soul, has rekindled that same sense of purpose - a space where sustainability, creativity, and collective care naturally come together. Here, I feel deeply aligned with my values, surrounded by beautiful souls who grow together by building a brighter, kinder world, one mindful step at a time. 🌱💛
GETTING THERE
Protopia is located near La Cabanga, a charming village just 3 km away, where you’ll find a small convenience store for essentials. For a wider range of amenities, the towns of San Rafael de Guatuso (11 km) and Nuevo Arenal (15 km) offer restaurants, banks, and local shops.

LIR – Liberia International Airport: ~2 hours by private vehicle

SJO – Juan Santamaría International Airport: ~3.5 hours by private vehicle
Traveling by public transport will take longer (see below for details).
🚗 Arriving by Car
A 4x4 is not required, though it makes the journey smoother — especially during heavy rain.

The road to La Cabanga (Pueblo Nuevo) is fully paved.

From La Cabanga, continue 2 km on gravel, followed by 500 m of concrete strips.

Drive carefully and take your time on the final stretch.
Directions from La Cabanga:

Start at Super Comodo and drive past the school.

Cross the wooden bridge slowly, then continue up two rocky hills.

After the second hill, turn right at the Protopia sign onto the concrete strips.

Enter the first gray gate marked “Loving Neighbor.”

At the second gray gate, turn left at the Protopia sign.

Drive down, then up the hill — and you’ve arrived at Protopia!
🚌 Arriving by Bus
From SJO Airport:

Take a bus from 710 Terminal to Quesada (≈3 hrs, ~$7).

From Quesada, take a bus to San Rafael de Guatuso (≈2 hrs, ~$4).

From Guatuso, take a 20-minute taxi to Protopia (≈$24).
